This book gathers the words and music of 49 songs of the "last of the Irish bards", Turlough O'Carolan, and presents them for the first time in their full composition. Drawing on numerous library and archival holdings, and the works of the great collectors of Irish music since the 18th century, this compilation includes a detailed introduction and colourful biographical notes on these collectors as well as on O'Carolan himself. Written in Irish in the 1980s, it here sees the published light of day for the first time, with full texts and scores of the music, and accompanied by a parallel translation into English.
